L’Ma Lodge Skoura Morocco

“We invite you to come and stay in our charming Lodge hidden in the heart of the magnificent Skoura palm grove, located 40 km from Ouarzazate. True haven of peace, far from any noise and visual pollution, you will be in total harmony with this most varied vegetation: hundreds of palm trees, olive trees and other fruit trees! The Lodge is made up of a main house including the restaurant, the common living rooms, the kitchen and the private part where we live. Further on is the riad where our 7 rooms and suites can be accommodated for 2 to 5 people. All are very bright, spacious and offer a view of the garden and the palm grove. Each has a bathroom with separate wc. According to your desires, we invite you to rest among the 8000 m² of our garden, to play a game of pétanque or to take advantage of our swimming pool (with submerged beach) while in harmony with its environment. We are also there to offer you the chance to discover these magnificent regions with our partner travel agency: stroll in the palm grove, discovery of the Atlas and the desert by 4×4, original breakfasts in dream settings, overnight in bivouac, horse ride, camel ride and cooking class..” informations from lmalodge.com

What Makes your stay at L'Ma Lodge special ?

“Opened in 2003, Lma Lodge has 4 beautifully appointed rooms and 3 suites. The owners, Vanessa and Xavier, and their 2 children, Charlie and Milo, make the place feel very much alive. And there’s quite a few things to keep everyone interested here, adults and children alike. Heated pool from April through October, different open air terraces spread around the huge gardens, petanque terrain, playground for children, a piano and a guitar and most importantly, the calm that reigns supreme as there is no route passing by the house. From the roof terrace there are 360 degree views of the surrounding palm trees, magnificent sunsets and in the distance, the beautiful Atlas Mountains with its snow capped peaks during the winter. The rooms are centrally heated with wall mounted units for those chilly winter nights and ceiling fans for hot summer days. The 3 suites are a double and 2 of them can comfortably sleep up to 5 people so ideal for families. The attention to detail is pervading, from toiletries and soaps to quality bedding, tadelakt bathrooms, sound insulation and the exquisite dishes in the kitchen. The speciality of the house ? Lait citron. Most ingredients here come from the gardens and the goat cheese is locally sourced. Home made gems, bread and pancakes are on display at breakfast. The restaurant also caters for vegetarians, food allergies and serves alcohol. We’d tell you about the things to do in the surrounding palm grove, but you wouldn’t want to leave the house and its premises once you are here…” informations from suntrails.com

What to Expect

In only a few years, this guest house in the palm grove of Skoura, has become a reference. Recently, previous guests have booked two years in advance, booking the whole place for them and their group of friends. The recipe for this success ? Instead of one single ingredient, there are a few: a dedicated, English speaking- team, always discreet but always on hand. A passionate owner, Vanessa, for whom nothing is too much when it comes to making her guests happy. An architecture that strays away from the kasbah/ Berber/ pise/ wood beans architecture and favours modern and the profusion of light, above all. A different Moroccan cuisine ( think chicken tagine with figues and almonds, goat cheese salads), using the local ingredients grown in the gardens. Very comfortable beds and bed linen, wall mounted radiators and wide windows inside. Vast gardens with private lounges for everyone, complemented by a heated pool, outside. And children are welcome – there’s walks in the palm grove they can take with the resident horse and mule.

The lodge is a small guest house split over several buildings within a large palm-tree garden. All accommodation is situated in a separate riad with rooftop terrace. Standard rooms (there are 4) have a seating area and most can accommodate a child bed; the three suites also have a living room and space for up to 5 adults. All rooms have walk-in shower, separate toilet, ceiling fans and gas heating.

The main house contains the public areas including the two lounges, restaurant with central fireplace, and a terrace. The large gardens include fruit, olive and palm trees as well as a vegetable garden. The pool is designed to have both shady and sunny parts, and includes a submerged “beach” area for adults and children.

The restaurant serves Moroccan and Mediterranean seasonal cuisine.Free wi-fi is available. Other activities include pétanque, board games and (at extra cost) cooking or Arabic classes and henna. There is an equestrian centre nearby, and local guides offer tours of the palmeraie and surrounding areas.

Guests Reviews

“Beautiful property, tranquil, amazing gardens and artful rooms. Family style dining for guests in nicely appointed area. Food has home cooked feel, but chef style taste. We were greeted by the owner and given the history of her property. A quick stroll through native gardens took us to our room where we had a Moroccan style staircase leading up to our suite. We talked to several guests, mostly Europeans, and several book this property more than once. Huge play area (and trampoline!) for children”

“We stayed three nights at L’ma Lodge after a recommendation from a friend and it was the best hotel in a trip that was truly not short of highlights. The garden and house are huge with fantastic little nooks to sit and read, the food 100% homemade and very innovative (choice of 8 homemade marmelades for breakfast!), and most importantly Vanessa and Xavier made us instantly feel at home like old friends.
Morocco is not short of beautiful hotels, but none managed to exude the charm, personality, friendliness and community spirit of this place. Formerly owner of a travel agency, Vanessa is incredibly knowledgable, she recommended and set up great day trips and set us up for the next memorable hotel at Agdz.

“There are enough quiet corners, but this is place for people who want to become part of the instant circle of friends that Vanessa and Xavier create among the guests. It is very family friendly as well, which we preferred to the beautiful but somewhat boring “honeymooning-couple-please-don’t-talk-to-us” atmosphere of other garden hotels.

The lodge can be difficult to find the first time as bureaucracy for setting up signs is maddening in Morrocco. After turning off the paved road into the palmery at the L’ma lodge sign, continue for 1km until you hit a T-junction where you should turn right, then left after 100m and immediately right again onto the parking lot”

“You must stay here as long as you can! We were so heartbroken to leave after one brief afternoon/night. A true oasis smack dab in the wide open desert landscape — L’Ma Lodge exudes comfortable luxury.”

“You must stay here as long as you can! We were so heartbroken to leave after one brief afternoon/night. A true oasis smack dab in the wide open desert landscape — L’Ma Lodge exudes comfortable luxury.Vanessa and her husband (both European expats) have created a truly magical escape. Each and every detail is flawless — from the stunning gardens to the gorgeous lobby and bungalows, from the incredible staff to the wonderful food.If we could move in, we would! Thank you, Vanessa, for making our trip to Morocco even more amazing than we could have imagined.

“L’Ma Lodge is a little off the beaten path, but once you arrive you will enter a beautiful oasis with lush green gardens, manicured lawns and a world of peace and tranquility. The main building functions as the reception, restaurant and social area, while the building with the rooms is at the other end of the property. In the middle is a pool, several sitting areas and several walking paths that ultimately connect the two buildings. The landscaping is done in such a manner that the compound seems much larger than it really is and you always have a sense of solitude. Dinner is an enjoyable event featuring a variety of local dishes, while breakfast is truly delightful and offers a wide array of homemade jams. The hosts, Vanessa and Xavier, make you feel like long lost friends and Abdelrani acts as the magical mixture of a manager, maitre’d, waiter, and concierge.
I was a little skeptical of a place that had 78 “Excellent” ratings and nothing less. However, after staying there I am a believer. They definitely earned it! If you wish a beautiful and peaceful respite during your tour of Morocco, this is the place”
