Les Jardins de Skoura Morocco

Les Jardins de Skoura is an 8 bedroom boutique guesthouse situated 45minutes from Ouarzazate city and makes a perfect base for exploring the Dades , Todra and Roses vallez as well Sahara desert at Merzouga and M’hamid.

Opened in 2003, after 5 years of restoration and boasts 5 rooms and 3 suites, most of them on the ground floor. Whether it is the generous gardens, the delicious cuisne, the traditional architecture, the views on the snow peaked Atlas mountains . And those that spend one night regret not spending more. The owners and theire staff has the warmest welcome and they immediately makes you feel at ease.

The house reflects the local architecture: the walls are made of  pisé  ( adobe) and the ceilings supported by birch and palm trunks. And if you care for more than enjoying the gardens, the views and the pool, there are plenty of choices: visit a local village market, learn about the life in the community from a local guide or trek in the nearby Mgoun mountains among lost- in- time villages at over 4000 meters high.

Stay in the heart of skoura palm grove...

This really is getting away from it all – an oasis, literally, of style, classy accommodation and wonderful palm groves, where just about every exotic plant you can think of can be found, in the middle of the wonderful garden (sunflowers, pomegranates, olive trees, almond trees, apricot trees, fig trees to name just a few). It’s not called “Jardins” – gardens in French – for nothing. The views of the Atlas Mountains in the background are just superb. Add to this 8 very stylish rooms some 36 km from Ouazarzate and you have a perfect stepping stone between Marrakech and the Sahara dunes .

Thick walls also keep the rooms cool in summer and in the suites fireplaces make for cosy winter evenings. And the massive garden has a collection of olive and fruit trees offering shade from the hot Moroccan sun and an inviting pool. It all makes for perfect relaxation which can be further aided with a massage (arranged on reservation).

“My husband and I stayed here for a night on our way to the desert. We were greeted upon arrival by the friendly Marie and Thierry, who showed us around the entire establishment. We then went to the rooftop terrace to enjoy our welcome tea and some delectable cookies. The rooftop areas are absolutely perfect for stargazing(when not cloudy, but still equally beautiful).

We were served a very yummy dinner, the owners were quick to mention that tagine is only served twice a week as most travellers get tired of eating it all the time. This was ideal for us as we did agree that tagine all the time would be overkill! The staff were very helpful as was Marie and Thierry who showed us the animals they have on site. Cute donkeys! We wished we could’ve stayed longer! Thanks so much Marie and team for making our stay very comfortable!”

Madame Amy from USA (review from tripadvisor.com)

“Pretty much everything was perfect. Nice decoration, dreamy garden and good kitchen like you’d eat at someone’s home! We did a tour with their gardener who is also a licensed guide in the area, totally worth it. And i say this as a regular hiker who mostly relies on my hiking maps. The guide takes you for three hours through the fields, gardens and off beaten tracks around the oasis on foot. All the accolades mentioned in the reviews of Les Jardins de Skoura are all completely true! What a wonderful surprise and treat to have had such an incredible repast in the middle of our three-week Moroccan adventure. The French owners, Marie and Thierry, were so charming, welcoming and gracious. The grounds are beyond beautiful, with many variations of cacti and shrubs. There are hammocks, sun loungers, mattresses, couches, and tables and chairs to relax, read, nap, chat, or have a delicious lunch. The rooms are exotically decorated with local tiles, fabrics, pillows, side tables, lamps and rugs, but at the same time, promote a feeling of serenity and tranquility. As the weather was cool in the evening, we had dinner in the exquisite, cozy dining room, accompanied by recorded Moroccan music and the dancing flames in the fireplace. The three-course meal was absolutely delicious, prepared by the very talented house chef. While there, I recommend a tour of the oasis, which was so interesting as well as beautiful. The enchanting gardens of Les Jardins de Skoura will be waiting for you when you return!”

Mr Fabienne from Luxembourg (review from booking.com)

“Fabulous staff, particularly Rida who was very engaging. A good chef who provides delicious meals at a very high standard. Tastefully decorated rooms. Garden is beautiful, pool is warm, and there are so many lovely places to relax and enjoy the warmth. Marie and Phillipe, the owners, also make a point of meeting and greeting all their guests. I’d highly recommend this place!”

Mr Karennz  from New Zealand (reveiw from google.com)

“One of the most beautiful places we have ever had the fortune to stay in. Romantic and magical. Marie, Thierry and their wonderful team were helpful and attentive. There are plenty of nooks, hammocks, terraces and quiet spots in the garden or by the pool to relax and then the magic at sunset with drinks on the terraces followed by dinner lit by lights in baskets hanging from the trees. Marie also arranged a walk through the oasis with two donkeys for the children to ride. This place is worth every penny.”

Mr Ali Khan from India (reveiw from fodors.com)

“I’m determined to return with family and friends ….. this is small, boutique staying at it’s VERY best. I was traveling solo and it was lovely to be greeted at the door by the owners after a day of hiking and exploring. The room – a jewel The dinner – perfect for a hungry traveller.
In the morning I explored the garden … I could only imagine how glorious it is in the Spring! It was beautiful in Winter. The gardener walked me around. I showed him photos of my garden in Tasmania and we shared the common language of being passionate gardeners.Wonderful, wonderful and simply wonderful”
